We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Now, as for the lighter lines, my scanner does the same thing with pencil drawings. I would suggest using ink pens like Mars professional by Staedtler (if you're willing to spend 20 bucks) to darken the lines of your drawings.
